Working Hard Or Hardly Working?

I know I've been pretty quiet lately, but it's crunch time!  This weekend is all about work for me, so I thought I would be so kind as to share this cheese ball "Loverboy" tune with you!  Enjoy...

Since I will be buried this weekend, I want to direct you to one of my favorite blogs.  Elizabeth is the author of "observationmode," a fashion cornucopia covering trends in apparel and footwear, among other things.  Take one of Elizabeth's fun fashion polls!   And in case you were wondering, yes, this is the same Elizabeth who sponsored this sexy dress!

Elizabeth is going to look haute, haute, haute in this little number!

Don't Drink And Drape

I've been working lots of long hours on my show for New York Fashion Week which, incidentally, is coming up in just a few weeks!  I felt the need to calm my nerves a bit tonight.  Lately, I've been getting awfully cozy with WendyB's and MrB's dining room table and tonight, I felt a glass (or two, or three) of wine would be appropriate.

me in action!

Wendy was sneaky kind enough to snap this photo of me in action... working my booty off.  Normally, I don't let people see me in my spectacles (vain much?), but I'm making an exception.  I want all my readers, supporters and sponsors to see the real deal!

Meanwhile, I still NEED TO RAISE an additional $2000 to pay for the lighting costs for the show.  Please help me pass the word along and scrounge up more sponsors.  $5, $10... every little bit counts!  Contribute HERE :-)

More pix to come!
xoxo

No Lights, No Camera, No Action!

I'm so happy to announce that all twelve dresses in my Spring 2011 collection have been sponsored!  How exciting!  The presentation is just around the corner and I'm doing everything I can to bring it together and to make it the best it can possibly be.

As most of you know, this production has been almost entirely funded through a website called Kickstarter (I did have two dress sponsors jump on the idea so quickly that I was still set up with Pay Pal at the time).  Kickstarter kicked me hard right out of the gate, but after the intital buzz and excitement, the funding has slowed (although donations are trickling in little by little).

While I have well surpassed my original goal of $6000, I had no idea how quickly costs would accumulate!  It's my first time people!  Things are going pretty smoothly, but I've certainly hit a few bumps in the road.  Actually, I hit one giant speed bump!  Lighting!  Who knew it would cost so much?  Not me, obviously.  It only makes sense that good lighting is the key to a good presentation.  Bad lighting or no (professional) lighting at all will not allow the beautiful dresses to be seen... I mean REALLY seen.  Details, fabric, texture, color... it's all so important.  Not only that, but the highly skilled photographer that I was lucky enough to book cannot create miracles with his camera.  Poor lighting = poor photos.

So, please help me to annoy as many of your friends as possible and coerce them into contributing to my collection on Kickstarter!

thanking all of you!

I can't say enough times how incredibly grateful and touched I am by the outpouring of support!  OK... back to work!

"Drape Suzette"

After a  weekend of hard work, I thought I would revisit my taffeta darlings!  Miss me?  As you know, I'm working feverishly and diligently on putting together the Spring 2011 Collection.  Like any designer, I'm quite attached to my pieces or, my "babies."  In fact, since all of my "babies" have actually been "adopted," I'm that much more connected.  It's become very personal as the dresses are each named after their sponsor.  I'm so engrossed, that all of my conversations go something like this:

  • "I'm just sewing Anna right now, but then I really need to start cutting Elizabeth."
or this...
  • "I need to go buy lining for Melissa and stop to pick up zippers for Jocelyn and Emilia. Do you want to meet for a coffee afterward?"
But, I think my favorite so far has to be...
  • "I must drape Suzette.  I have to meet with the Italian trim company, but I need to have Suzette's muslin ready first so I can bring it with me for placement purposes."
OK, I know most people on the planet earth would not follow or comprehend that sentence, but that's not the point here.  DRAPE SUZETTE!!  I had to stop and laugh.  I had to marvel at my little (unintentional) pun.  Then, I had to annoy my pal Wendy Brandes with my pun...of which I was so proud.  Wendy offered a mild chortle and rolled her eyes.  "Come on!" I said.  It's hilarious... "drape Suzette... aren't you hungry now?"

I suppose I was just a bit punchy, giddy, sleep deprived or whatever, but I was amused.  I know Wendy was too!   Whether or not she admits it, she has (at least on occasion) laughed at my adolescent humor.  I'm reminded of a certain dinner when Wendy told me that her friend had written a book on anorexia.  "Was it a very thin book?" I asked.  If I recall correctly, there was Prosecco shooting out of nostrils!  OMG!

Alive and Kicking!

Hello my taffetadarlings!  Good news... I am 112% funded for my upcoming presentation during NY Fashion Week in September!  THANK YOU to everyone who is rooting for me, supporting me and sponsoring me. It's not too late to get involved if you want to contribute.  Kickstarter will keep accepting donations until the scheduled end date, September 8th.  I am trying to make it to 200% -- what do you think, can I do it?  I was very conservative when I gave Kickstarter my goal because if the project falls short in the end, it gets ZERO, NADA, ZILCH.  Big fat goose egg!  Well, I can breath a bit easier knowing that the project will, in fact, be funded (screaming with joy inside!), I still have a ton of work to do!  I'd better get going...

STACY LOMMAN : NEW YORK Spring 2011 Collection is "Alive and Kicking"

Oooh La La!

OK, I'm just gonna say it... "Thanks Mom!"  Well, if you can't get your family to rally behind you, how can you expect others to, right?  So, my beautiful mother, Suzette sponsored this lovely, sleek dress.  I think if she had left it up to my dad he would have selected one of the shorter dresses!  Anyway, say bonjour to "The Suzette."  Ooh la la!!

Also, I seem to be having trouble with the link/widget to Kickstarter on my blog.  It is redirecting to some bizarre and completely unrelated site.  I have contacted them about this technical glitch and I'm still waiting to get it resolved.  So, in the meantime, you (and your co-workers, relatives, friends and enemies can click on the link below to bring them to my Kickstarter page.

Thanks everyone!!
Kick Me!

Hello Gorgeous!

Isn't she stunning?  Her name is Elizabeth and she's just been adopted!  Elizabeth will be part of my Spring 2011 collection thanks to her equally stunning sponsor, Elizabeth Coyne from the blog Observationmode...bloggin' since 2005!  You go girl!  I'm so happy you're part of the family.

KICKSTART!

I'm very excited to report that I'm making progress with my Spring 2011 Collection!  While I've been trying to work miracles with the physical work (designing, sewing, planning, etc.), friends, and even people I've never met before, have been rallying behind me working the financial side of things.  I'm so full of gratitude.

meet Gwendolyn P. -- she just joined the family!

One really helpful piece of this puzzle is Kickstarter.com.  Kickstarter is a fantastic website that helps all kinds of budding businesses to get off the ground.  I applied to the site last week and found out on Saturday that I was approved!  Yeah!  Here is the link...

I've already gotten a few major sponsors for my dresses and I hope to get more.  Please pass this on to all of your friends and family... no contribution is too little.  Thanks everyone!  I will keep you all posted as I go through this life changing (hopefully) event...
