I'm A Model!

And you guys thought I was just a designer! Well, check out this photo! Yes, taffetadarlings, that's yours truly modeling a leather jacket on Overstock.com! Okay, okay, so it's not Neiman's, but hey... I'm a model! My good friend Michael contacted me last month and asked if I would do him a favor and pose for some photos. "What KIND of photos?" I said. As it turned out, he had sold several leather jacket styles to Overstock and they require their product (apparel) to be photographed on a person rather than a mannequin or just flat. I agreed on the condition that he cut off my head. Wait, that sounds morbid. Who do I think I am, Mary Queen of Scots? Hey, WendyB -- you can create a new piece of jewelry based on me!

Right Said Fred, you ain't got nothin' me bee-yatch!

So, I had a very professional photo session in the hallway of my friend's office building. Yeah, that's how I roll! I'm not sure why I smiled for each photo knowing that my head would be chopped off, but for some reason I felt strange posing sans smile. I have to say, all of the jackets were very comfortable and cute! Who couldn't use another black leather jacket? You can never have enough. And these trendy styles are only $99 on Overstock. Bargain, no?

La Dolce Vita

As promised, I'm sharing a bit more of my leopard lined dress that I mentioned in my last post. Thank God I don't have to pay Roberto Cavalli any royalties for his ~~patent~~ absurd claim on the invention of leopard print!

The lovely and talented jewelry designer, WendyB (whose Cleopatra earrings are featured in the Sex in the City 2 film -- click here to find out where you can purchase these glorious dangles) for whom I designed this dress, offered to pose for a photo op. Doesn't she look divine? It's so rewarding to see my pieces on beautiful people (well, ALL of my clients are beautiful!).

As most of you are aware, Wendy is an extremely busy woman, but she is one of the most glamorous people I know. I've never seen her without a perfect pout -- I mean, her lipstick never moves. I'm beginning to think she had it tattooed on like Michael Jackson's eyeliner, except that the color changes occasionally. MAC cosmetics should seriously hire her as their spokesperson... if she could squeeze it into her schedule.

Highlights: Berlin Fashion Week

Berlin Fashion Week came to a close on Saturday and if I had to summarize the shows in a few words, I would say: Leather, latex, luster and luxury! I could write a monster post wherein I review each collection, but who has time for that? Besides, Berlin doesn’t compare (yet) to New York, London or Paris Fashion Weeks. But, I personally enjoy discovering new designers with unique style and vision -- it’s so boring to look at the same labels all the time. So, let’s break down Berlin…

Schumacher, .dimitri, Susanne Wiebe

Color: Black was the strongest (non)color across the board. No surprise there. Dark shades of burgundy, midnight and charcoal are dominant tones in the fall palette. Sparkly silver and glimmering gold accent and brighten the deep tones. Brighter hues of blue and orchid add an energetic pop to the spectrum.

Fabric: Buttery satin, rich velvet and flowing silk chiffon mix with soft knits. Cashmere and virgin wool fibers are used in heavier jacket fabrics as well as warm jerseys. Leather is present in almost every collection. Tech qualities such as neoprene offset natural fabrics to create a modern twist.

Surface: Silicon printing creates a glossy finish; sequins add glittery shimmer and leathers are patent and shiny. Plush pile fabrics offer texture as do a variety of fur and tweeds.

Key-Looks: Narrow silhouettes including skinny pants prevail. Business attire makes a statement in separates and dresses. The formal tuxedo diffuses into daywear creating sensual silhouettes. Oversized knits are paired with leggings and tights for a sporty-elegant ensemble.
